History

626 Thurston (6-2-6) opened in September, 2011, along with the Office of Academic Diversity Initiatives (OADI), as part of Cornell University’s overarching diversity initiative--Toward New Destinations (TND).

SDDI is the counterpart to OADI; SDDI builds equity by developing social and cultural capital and contributes to the social and cultural identity development of students through peer to peer mentorship, experiential learning experiences, and organizational leadership and involvement opportunities. Meanwhile, OADI supports the academic development of students.

Along with Student Development Diversity Initiatives (SDDI), 6-2-6 serves as the home for the LGBT Resource Center and the Asian and Asian American Resource Center (A3C). As an entirety, all three programs housed within 6-2-6 are committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment by supporting the social and cultural identity development of students through advocacy, organizational advising, leadership development, and community engagement.
