Phi Sigma Kappa was founded on March 15, 1873, at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, formerly known as Massachusetts Agricultural College. The Gamma Chapter was founded at Cornell in 1889, but was without its own house until 1902, when it moved into 702 University Avenue, right across the street from what is now the Hot Truck.
The Cardinal Principles of "Phi Sig" are Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Character. These beliefs are very close to the Fraternity and its Brothers. The "Triple T's," the symbol of the Fraternity that can be found all over the Chapter House, are a secret symbol known only to the Brothers.
On campus, the 41 active Brothers of Phi Sigma Kappa are involved in an array of activities, from varsity sports to pre-professional groups to TAs, and have an array of majors in six of the seven colleges on campus. Every year, the Brothers paint the footsteps on the Arts Quad to symbolize the famous fable that if a virgin crosses the quad at midnight, the statues will rise and shake hands. This is one of many community based activities that the fraternity participates in.
