About:

Sigma Phi was founded on March 4, 1827.  It expanded to its second chapter in 1830 making it the first national fraternity. Cornell's chapter of Sigma Phi, the Epsilon of New York, was founded in 1890 with the help of Andrew Dickson White - Cornell University's first President and a Sigma Phi from Hobart College. Its original members believed that a relatively small group of brothers would perpetuate a close-knit organization and enduring friendships.  The privilege of brotherhood brings challenges and achievements that will never be forgotten. For well over a century the society has held to this ideal. The membership has been maintained at roughly thirty brothers, a number unique among leading houses at Cornell. We enjoy a prime location on West Campus and boast first rate facilities including single rooms for most brothers and our own indoor squash court. Sigma Phi is a diverse society. Its members are some of the most accomplished Cornellians. The alumni of Sigma Phi are strong and dedicated – offering the nation's largest fraternal scholarship fund to qualified actives and bringing famous speakers to campus through the Oliphant Distinguished Speakers Fellowship.  We at Sigma Phi understand the magnitude of the decision one makes when committing to a fraternity and we encourage you to stop by to learn what makes Sigma Phi special.
