About:

Sigma Phi Epsilon was founded at Richmond College by Carter Ashton Jenkens on November 1, 1901.  Jenkens, the son of a minister, and divinity student himself grounded SigEp in the Cardinal Principles of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love.  He then proclaimed that SigEp “would be different,” and we proudly march on into our second century as a fraternity of firsts.  SigEp was the first fraternity to have a national GPA above a 3.0, the first to establish traveling staff to assist chapters in effective operation, and among other milestones the first to charter a chapter in all 50 states.

Today, the Fraternity has grown to more than 250,000 lifetime members, including 14,000 undergraduates on 250+ campuses in the United States.  SigEp is currently the largest fraternity in terms of undergraduate enrollment.  SigEp’s history at Cornell began almost 100 years ago and we progressed as a dominant chapter on campus.  After a year hiatus, we returned to campus in late 2006, did away with the “Pledging Model,” and now embrace the Balanced Man Ideal.

Currently, we engage in a four-year continuous personal development program and accept new members year round.  Strictly anti-hazing, we believe it is more productive to build new members up rather than tear them down.  SigEp at Cornell seeks to further our mission statement of “Building Balanced Leaders for the World’s Communities,” through recruiting undergraduates who are looking to better themselves as leaders through knowledge accrual, campus leadership, athletics and brotherhood.
