The Chi Chapter of Psi Upsilon was founded on June 12, 1876 at Cornell University. The young land grant institution had proven to be fertile soil for social fraternities since its founding; however, eight years passed after Cornellians first petitioned for a Psi Upsilon chapter before one was founded. During these eight years, a few men stood out as leaders in the crusade for a Psi Upsilon chapter.
