How to Join a Greek Organization

Formal recruitment is held the week before classes start each January for IFC and Panhellenic organizations. The membership intake process for MGLC organizations happens at a various times during the year at the discretion of each group and their national organizational. Students wishing to participate in recruitment may do so by clicking on the links below to register. http://www.cornellgreeks.com

Panhellenic Recruitment

Panhellenic formal recruitment process for all 12 of our Panhellenic sororities will occur in January 2009 with the registration beginning in October. In the fall semester, a limited number of sororities may extend the opportunity for new members to join. For further information please contact Chit Phoo Nyo at cpn5@cornell.edu.  Please note:  First semester freshmen may not join a fraternity or sorority at Cornell.

Spring - Through a structured process, interested women attend events at each of our Panhellenic chapter houses. Formal recruitment ends with offers of membership. In this process, every woman who starts the recruitment process and follows the recruitment guidelines has the opportunity to join a Panhellenic sorority.

In the spring 2009, all 41 IFC fraternities will be taking on new members. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are able to participate in recruitment to find out more about the fraternity system at Cornell. The recruitment process varies by fraternity, but historically involves a combination of social functions called "smokers", brotherhood outings, and one-on-one interaction. At the conclusion of the week, each fraternity extends "bids" or offers of membership, to men that it wishes to be a part of its organization.

MGLC Recruitment

The Multicultural Greek Letter Council (MGLC) consists of National Asian Pacific Islander American Panhellenic Association (NAPA) organizations, National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO) and organizations representing the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). All organizations in MGLC fall in one of these sub councils and have an equally unique collection of recruitment processes. While some organizations have formal recruitment, other organizations create interest through interest meetings, informational sessions or word-of-mouth. More specific information such as frequency, nature and length of the Rush/Intake/Pledging period may be different for each individual organization.  For questions about Rush/Intake/Pledging, please contact Jarrod Cruz at jnc54@cornell.edu. Please note:  First semester freshmen may not join a fraternity or sorority at Cornell.
