Volunteer Opportunities

Greek Movers and Shakers:

Greek Movers & Shakers is a program that allows Greek students to help first year students move into their dorm rooms when they arrive on campus in August.  In 2007, there were about 125 Greeks that came out on move-in day to help. Greeks came back a day early to train with orientation leaders, provide assistance to first year families, and get freshmen acclimated to Cornell and Greek life. Parents were thrilled with the helpful nature of the Greek students, and they were left with an improved perception of the Greek community at Cornell. The program is getting stronger every year, and with the help of campus life it has been a great success.

Day of Demeter:

The annual Day of Demeter is held each Spring. The event is a partnership between the Greek system and the greater Cornell and Ithaca communities. Each spring the Greek community undertakes a beautification project. In the past, events have included a Collegetown clean-up, Gorge clean-up, and the Greek Park beautification project. In the future, we hope to partner with local schools and community organizations to improve area playgrounds.

Trick or Treat Trail:

The 2007 Trick or Treat Trail was the first true community outreach event planned by the Tri-Council. Eighteen Fraternity and Sorority chapters and two program houses opened their doors to Trick or Treaters from the local community. The event was a huge success with over 75 families coming to Cornell to trick or treat through the "Cornell Heights" area of Cayuga Heights where many of our Fraternities and Sororities are located. Next year we look forward to a longer Trail and more events for young children at RPCC.
