Cornell University Off-Campus Housing Office (OCHO) is committed to providing information and services that result in informed housing decisions by offering assistance, education and referral services to those within the Cornell community who are living off-campus. Our goal is to offer practical suggestions for securing housing, identifying campus and community resources available to them, and to assist students with the transition into living independently as a member of the Ithaca community.
Stats
The OCHO serves more than 50% of undergraduates and 85% of graduate students who do not live in university housing.
Recent History of OCHO
In the Fall ’04 the Cornell University Off Campus Housing Task force was formed to address the concerns of students and local community members about the safety and quality of life for those living in Off Campus Housing. Once the Task Force identified the needs of the students living off campus an Implementation Team in Spring ’05 was brought together to evaluate the priority and feasibility of each recommendation made by the Task Force. By Winter ’06 a new Director of the Off Campus Housing Office was appointed. Since its inception, OCHO has made every effort to address the Implementation Team recommendations and endorsements.
Advisory Board
As recommended by the '05 Task Force reports, the OCHO Advisory Board is a forum made up of students, faculty, staff, community officials and residents. Each semester the OCHO Advisory Board meets to discuss current housing issues, prioritize and develop program materials and events to assist students with the transition into living in the community of Ithaca. Please contact ocho@cornell.edu if you would like more information.
